Installation
Medicine leaflets on constructed wall, 500 x 200 cm
“Sunset Yellow” is an installation based on the artist’s experience with medications which he has consumed over two years, that has enabled him to comprise an unusual and extensive collection of leaflet instructions for use of medications, which he even expanded due to a work-related injury during the assembly of the installation in Maribor, Slovenia.
Through utilitarian texts in different languages, he exposes a very intimate side of the history of his illness, without actually saying anything about it or about the injury. Instead, the artist uses the yellow color to highlight certain words in these instructions, thus creating special instructions for the viewer.
Because of the way conventional medicine is treating symptoms in isolation, the installation is a unified mind-body manifestation and a way back to the core of the artist’s malfunction and his vital needs. These painted words are the artist’s directions for a better quality of life, converting the monotonous pharmaceutical instructions into random and humorous, yet meaningful poetry.
