Participatory performance
Between 1 and 3 hours
Telephone Poles is a long-duration participatory performance in which the artist and members of the public work together to untangle a long thread and roll its two ends onto identical wooden cylinders.
To reach the unmarked midpoint of the thread, they continually compare the weight of the cylinders using a balance scale.
The performance concludes with the two connected thread spools resting in balance on each side of the scale, with the midpoint indicated by the scale’s pointer.
